Urban S. McDaniel, 84, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at his home.
He was born July 8, 1926, in Morgan County, the son of Amel and Beulah Clark McDaniel. He married Donneda Obert on July 17, 1949, in Chapin, and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters and one son, BariLynne (Richard) Morrison of Omaha, NE, Barbara Ann (Daniel) Paterson of Ridge, MD, and Bruce Alan (Jacque) McDaniel of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Sean (Alexia) Morrison, Jarrod (companion Teresa) Morrison, Jason (Arlen) McDaniel, Scot Paterson and Amy Paterson; and two great-granddaughters, Audra Morrison and Jahslen McDaniel. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Nathan Morrison; and two brothers, Howard and Claude McDaniel.
Mr. McDaniel was a 1944 graduate of Chapin High School, and attended Monmouth College and Illinois College. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Army Air Force. He had worked as a salesman at Sears Roebuck & Co. for 32 years, and then in computer sales with Joe Agner. He later worked for 15 years as a real estate agent with Grojean Agency, retiring in 1996. Urban was a member of Central Christian Church, where he was an Elder Emeritus. He was also a member of the Chapin American Legion and a 57-year member of Harmony Lodge #3 A.F. & A.M. He and his family had hosted a foreign exchange student, Seppo Lampinen, from Helsinki, Finland, who they remain close to today.
