Ulma Stabler, age 84 of Wing, AL passed away on Friday, September 11, 2015. He was born in Butler County, AL on October 1, 1930, to Reese Vandy Stabler and Jessie Mae Pope. Ulma served in the United States Army at Fort Knox, KY, for 2 years after graduating from Lowndes County High School. He then continued his education at Troy State College and graduated in June, 1956 with a major in Math. After graduation, Ulma accepted a position with NASA at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, as a Mathematician from 1956 – 1957. He then accepted a position at Eglin Air Force Base as a Mathematician until he retired in 1985. While at Eglin, Ulma worked on the 1st mainframe computer in the Eglin Math Lab and later he was instrumental in computerizing the operations of the Climatic Laboratory.
