Twila M. Speed, age 95, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington. Twila was born April 16, 1922, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Lily (Hutt) Mangold. She graduated from Washington High School in 1940. Twila was united in marriage to Fred J. Speed on December 14, 1941, in Missouri.

Twila worked at Sylvania and General Electric in Burlington, Iowa,  as well as at the Washington County Hospital as a cook. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington. Twila enjoyed bird watching, visiting with people and helping plan class reunions. She was driving and enjoying life up until her 95th birthday.  As a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, Twila was excited to see the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.

She is survived by her two sons, Larry Speed and wife Jean of Ottawa, IL and Tom Speed and wife Dixie of Denton, TX; grandchildren, Brent Speed of Mt. Vernon, IA, Ryan Speed of Hiawatha, IA, Robin Eilers of Anamosa, IA, Tara Streater of Guthrie, OK, Trish Kimmel of Mansfield, TX and Troy Speed of Plano, TX; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Mangold of Washington, IA; special niece, Linda Wood of Edina, MN and many other nieces and nephews.

Twila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Lisa Violett and siblings, Stanley Mangold, Wayne Mangold, Verna Crone and Lee Mangold.
