Anton Ingvard “Tony” Mathiasen, 63, formerly of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away March 10, 2017, in El Paso, Texas.

Tony was born October 7, 1953, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Robert Mathiasen and Deloris Jorgensen Mathiasen. Tony attended New Sweden Elementary School and graduated from Skyline High School in 1972, graduating early so he could pursue his career in the racehorse industry and as a bull rider. His careers took him to Boise, Utah, Florida and Ohio. After a few years in Cleveland, Tony decided to focus on bull riding. He was a member of the EIRA and PRCA circuits until his Rodeo career ended in 1981 due to a bad accident.

In 1982 he met the love of his life, Cindy, and they were married December 20, 1983. Tony also gained a beautiful daughter, Stormi, and two stepsons, Jud and Jason. Their time together was spent in California and New Mexico. They later divorced, but remained lifelong friends.

Tony then moved on and worked throughout the United States on several racetracks as assistant trainer for Steve Asmussen, then settling in New Mexico training for Joel Marr. At the time of his death he was working for a dear friend, Nancy Summers. For the last two years Tony has spent his time in El Paso, Texas, and Ruidoso and Hobbs, New Mexico, with his love, Janie Hodridge.

Tony enjoyed a freshly worked track at 5:00 in the morning as the sun was coming up. Even though Tony worked seven days a week, he always found time to find a card game. He enjoyed calling his sisters and his momma – the conversations were always talking about his Gracie and politics.

Tony is survived by his daughter, Stormi Elaine (Dano Dantzler) Middleton, step-sons, Jud (Becky) Lee and Jason (Melanie) Lee, granddaughters, Gracie, Olyvia, Chloe, and Avery, and grandson, Trenton. Also by his three sisters, Trisha (Rocky) Storer, Terri (Derk) Duncan, and Robin Mathiasen, all of Idaho Falls, Idaho, as well as his many nephews and nieces whom he loved very much. His parents, Robert and Dee Mathiasen, preceded Tony in death.
