Tony Masella of 21 Bradley Road, Woodbridge, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2016 in Yale New Haven Hospital at the age of 99. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucille “Deedy” Masella. Born in New Haven on Sept. 8, 1916, he was the son of the late James and Fannie Labagnara Masella. He graduated from Hillhouse High School in the Class of 1934 and attended Stone Business College. He was a manager for Loew’s Poli Theater in downtown New Haven and in Meriden for 28 years from 1932 to 1960.. He served in the U.S. Army for two years during World War II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He subsequently became an insurance salesman for John Hancock Life Insurance Co. and earned positions in their President’s Club and Hall of Fame for excellence in sales. He and his wife established the Southbury Training School Committee of Greater New Haven. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and was very active in New Haven Democratic politics during the administration of Mayor DiLieto. He loved his family and enjoyed sharing Sunday dinners and his favorite Italian recipes. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (William H.) Carbone of New Haven; two sisters, Jean Anastasio of Orange and Loretta Palumbo of Milford; 3 granddaughters, Jennifer (Peter) Raccio, Marissa (Joe) Capasso and Rebecca (Jonathan) Courtemanche; 6 great grandchildren, Maya, Tessa, Chase, Landon, Cameron & Chloe as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son James A. Masella; two brothers, Gaetano “Guy” Masella and Joseph Vincent Masella; and two sisters, Michelina “Mickey” Ciocca and Aurora “Nikki”Rodican Buckingham Kreilheim.
