GARRETT, TOMMY WAYNE- Tommy Wayne Garrett, age 84, passed away at home in Roswell, New Mexico on Saturday, December 21, 2019, surrounded by his wife and all his children. Tommy was born to Paralee and Henry Garrett in Clayton, New Mexico on April 1, 1935. On May 29, 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Hair, and to this union three children were born – Michael, Debbie and Reba. A strong work ethic guided Tommy to work for Mountain Bell for thirty years. He also generally had a second job, the most significant of which was 20 years of operating Roswell Fire and Burglar Alarm until three years after his retirement. Though working round the clock, there was nothing he would not do for his family.
As an April Fool’s baby, Tommy had a natural love of fun and practical jokes. Family memories center around his antics and customized song lyrics. While no one escaped his pranks, Tommy had a way of inspiring those around him to do their very best and convinced each one they alone shared a special connection with him.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Garrett; his son Michael Garrett and his wife Detra (Rockwall, TX), and their family, Karla and Justin Smith and Ryan and Lindsey Garrett; daughter Debbie Goolsby and her husband Tom (Lubbock, TX) and their children Woody and Wade Goolsby; and daughter Reba Rogers (Roswell, NM) and her family Paige, John, and Michael Hodge and Kimberly, Matthew, Henry, and Lewis Dillon.
