Tommy Sneed, age 80, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023 in Amarillo, TX.
Tommy was born May 11, 1942 in Big Springs, TX to Robert and Viola Sneed. He was the oldest child of three. He grew up in Seminole, TX. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1960. Following graduation, he went to Texas Tech University for a short time.
He married the love of his life, Joyce Bloodworth, on June 1, 1961. Tommy & Joyce were married for 61 years. He and Joyce moved to Clovis, NM in 1965. They raised three children Darla, Tammy, and Breck. In 1966 Tommy went to work for Doc Stewart Chevrolet where he remained until 1977. He then opened Sneed’s Prince St Auto at 2nd and Prince St where he enjoyed a successful business selling many pickup trucks. In 1985 his customers followed him to a second car lot location at 500 E 1st St. In 1990 Tommy closed that car lot and joined Jones Pontiac and later Hamilton Ford. 1999 brought a partnership with Dick Morgan, opening S&M Motors at 3400 W. 7th St. A year later Tommy took over the business to become Sneed’s Auto & Self Storage. This business was successfully operated until Tommy’s retirement in 2021 when he & Joyce moved to Amarillo, TX.
Tommy had a passion for everything with a motor. He introduced the family to motorcycles, dune buggies, and classic cars. Darla rode with him through the car lots where he passed on his love of vehicles. He even took her to a car show in San Antonio, TX. Tammy worked for him for many years. Tommy taught her to type which later became her career. Tommy spent many weekends taking Breck and his friends to race BMX bikes. He also loved playing cards, working in the yard and grilling out.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Sneed of the home, his daughters Darla (Wayland) Beller of Rogers, AR, Tammy (Calvin) Boston of Amarillo, TX; and son Breck (Kristi) Sneed of Clovis, NM; Sybil Ann (Don) Woods of Atlanta, TX, Dwayne (Denise) Sneed of Lubbock, TX; eight grandchildren: Layne (Caitlin) Beller, Austin Biddle, Justin (Nicole) Biddle, Lauren (Nick) Sneed, Jordan Sneed, Tyler Beller, Connor Sparks, Faith (Bryce) Jimenez, seven great-grandchildren: Lucy Beller, Freddie Beller, Penelope Beller, Archer Beller, Journey Biddle, Brightynn Biddle and Klein Jimenez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Viola (Sneed) Solsberry and Viola’s second husband Doug Solsberry.
