Mr. Tommie Reed Cooper was born November 3, 1950 to the late Hubert and Sarah Reed, in Decatur, Alabama.  He was better known as “Cook Butter” to his many friends. He departed this life on March 10, 2013

He accepted Christ at the Apostolic Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Gus C. Hogan. He later united with the Jubilee House of Prayer under the leadership of Bishop Thomas D. Strong.

He attended the Decatur City Schools, graduating with the last class of Lakeside High School in 1969.

Tommie worked as a Fabric Chemist in Detroit for 40 years. After retirement, he relocated to Decatur, Alabama.

In 2007, he met the love of his life, someone he knew that he had been waiting for to make him happy. He married Wylodene Bumpus Jones, whom he would often tell people was the love of his life.

Tommie was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Tommie Cooper, Jr. and a brother, Cornelius Reed.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Wylodene Bumpus Jones Cooper of Decatur; three children, Tyron Cooper and Tameka Cooper of Detroit, MI, and Tracey (Derrick) Claxton of Charlestown, VA; six stepchildren, Fastonia Jones, of Philadelphia, PA, Annette Jones of Decatur, Stanley (Irie) Jones of Nashville, TN, Doris (Greg) Hall of Hoover,  Dirik Jones of Cincinnati, OH and Rodney Jones of Athens; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; aunts, Hazel Byrd, Laura Lyle, Sue Reed, Sarah McClendon and Debra Willingham, all of Decatur; twenty-nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
