Tommie Lou McConnell Tommie Louise (Boyd) McConnell peacefully left this earth on Oct 19, 2015, after a prolonged illness. She was 76 years old. She was born at the Mission Indian Hospital in Rehoboth, NM on April 9, 1939 to Harry and Catherine Thomas Boyd. Tommie married the love of her life Herbert Lee McConnell in 1957 and together they had four children.
She began what was to be a 40-plus year career in the insurance industry to help put her husband Herb through college at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. After graduation the family relocated to the Irving, TX. Tommie was not a college graduate, but she quickly became a respected colleague in the field of insurance underwriting. She made her niche & held her own in the world of business until finally retiring in 2006. A feisty lady, she was a veracious reader of mystery & crime novels.
Our family often joked that she was a detective in a previous life. She was a fierce bridge player and enjoyed embroidery, needlepoint, and spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was preceded in death by her best friend and love of her life, Herbert Lee McConnell. They were married for 39 years. Tommie was also preceded in death by her parents Harry and Catherine Thomas Boyd, one sister, Harriet.
She has left behind 4 children; Catherine McConnell Sage and husband COL (Ret) David Sage of Belton, Herbert Lee McConnell, Jr. of Austin, Boyd Austin and wife Christie Moore McConnell of Collinsville, OK, and ISG (Ret) Brent and Leeanna McConnell, also of Belton. Six grandchildren; Taylor McConnell and wife Samantha McConnell; Nicholas Graham, Brian Graham and Misty Neal, Samantha Faye Sage, Anthony Kaiser and Nathan McConnell. Two great-grandchildren; Echo Graham and Raylan McConnell.
