Todorka (Dora) Nedeva, age 44, passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 19 at MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland. The daughter of Nikolina and Nedyo Nedev (both engineers) was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria on May 24, 1972, where she was raised and educated.
In 1999 Dora moved to Lexington, KY to pursue her PhD degree at the University of Kentucky. Her love for Mathematics lead to her joining SVSU in 2005, where she was an associate professor of mathematics. Her work inspired many and “she was a strong role model to many students, particularly many math majors, who regularly sought her advice and kept in touch after graduation” – Tony Crachiola, department chair. Dora was a giving, kind and truly genuine person who touched the lives of everyone around her. She had many friends and belonged to many different communities.
She enjoyed playing tennis, skiing, cooking and gardening. Her flower works can be seen not only around her house but also in the gardens of many of her neighbors. “In addition to her kind and giving spirit, Dora was such a loyal and dependable person. A supporter of the SVSU women’s tennis team.
She taught a class of one of our current athletes, who is extremely grateful for their relationship as they have continued to keep in touch the past couple of years.” – Jennifer Boehm (women’s’ tennis coach at SVSU). Dora coached SVSU students in the annual William Lowell Putnam mathematics competition, a “notoriously difficult exam, and many students got to know her through her training sessions” – Tony Crachiola. She was a brilliant, loving, selfless and humble person and her presence made our lives better and more meaningful. Each and every one of us is so fortunate to have known her and she will be greatly missed.
