Timothy Scott Schmidt, 64, of Superior, Nebraska died Friday, September 25, 2015 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska after a difficult journey with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia).

The son of Lester and Dolores Schmidt, Tim was born on Easter Sunday, March 25, 1951 in York, Nebraska. For the first few years of his life, Tim grew up on the family farm near Waco and during the early part of his childhood he lived in Bennett, Nebraska. In 1959, Tim and his family moved to Lincoln where he attended Saratoga and Hartley Elementary Schools and later graduated from Lincoln Northeast in 1969. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and completed an undergraduate degree in English in 1973. Following undergrad, Tim was accepted into the University of Nebraska Law School and graduated in 1976.

Tim was married to Sonia Kirchhoff on June 12, 1976 in Lincoln, Nebraska. This union was blessed with two sons and a daughter, Anthony, Wade and Abby. Tim and Sonia have been residents of Superior since 1977.

Tim’s professional career began in 1977 by starting a private practice in Superior. In 1979, he took office as Nuckolls County Attorney and served in that capacity for 36 years before retiring this year. Upon his retirement, he was presented with a plaque with the following inscription, “In appreciation of 36 years of service as the Nuckolls County Attorney. Through your efforts & dedication, you will be remembered as one of the greats.” In addition, he also served as City Attorney for numerous towns and villages in the area. His professional associations were: Nebraska State Bar Association, Kansas State Bar Association, 10th Judicial District Bar Association, and Nebraska County Attorneys Association.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he was a lector, taught Sunday School, served several terms on the church council, and sang in and directed the choir. Members of the congregation remember and will miss Tim’s strong singing voice on hymns. His deep faith was a guiding principle throughout his life and it was a great strength to him as he dealt with the seriousness of his illness.

Aside from community and career, he was passionate about baseball, reading, golf and music. As a baseball fanatic and he spent many nights watching games on TV, especially his beloved Boston Red Sox.

Left to carry on his legacy and memories are his wife, Sonia Schmidt of Superior, NE; sons, Anthony Schmidt of Lincoln, NE; Wade Schmidt and wife Emily and children Jonah and Lyla of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Abby Schmidt of Denver, CO; his mother, Dolores Schmidt of Superior; sister Judy Stamm and husband Don of Paradise, MT; a brother Donn Schmidt and wife Cheryl of Blue Springs, MO; his mother-in-law, Verna Kirchhoff of Superior; brothers-in-law Rex Kirchhoff and wife Linda of Superior and Craig Kirchhoff and wife Nancy of Clarksburg, CA. He is also survived by numerous relatives and a host of colleagues and friends.
