Timothy Kent Hoskins, Pella, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 4, 2021 at the Comfort House in Pella. Tim died due to complications from an out-patient heart procedure. Tim was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on August 14, 1949 to Harold and Josephine (Griswold) Hoskins. He spent his childhood years in Tama, Iowa, and graduated from South Tama County High School in 1968. He then attended business classes at Marshalltown Community College. In his working years he was a laborer and crane operator and later went into the public sector, becoming a Public Works Director for the cities of Pella, Eldora, Lake Mills, and Norwalk.

On March 12, 1983, Tim married Jill (Wolfe) Garland, and together over the next 38 years, they lovingly blended a family of their five children: Shawn (Shonya) Hoskins of LeGrand, Kylee and Kamren; Hope (Chris) Jensen of Marshalltown, Alexis, Conner, and Rylen; Holly Hoskins of Marshalltown, Steven, Lacie, Oistin, and Lindsey; Codi (Nile) Heefner of Kirkwood, Missouri, Gabe, Seth and Josie; Jerod (Leah) Garland of Pella, Cayla, Eliana and Zoey. They resided in Garwin, Iowa, in their early married years.

Tim was preceded in death by his newborn son in 1970, Shannon; his parents Harold and Josephine (Griswold) Hoskins, and his brother Tom Hoskins. Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Tobi Cunningham of Ankeny, his mother and father-in-law, Theron and Doris Wilkerson, and several nieces and nephews.

Tim is remembered as a loving husband and best friend to his wife, Jill. The two shared a marriage celebrated by an appreciation of life, a deeply held friendship and a lot of humor. Tim was a fierce competitor in the regular family card games and especially enjoyed whenever he beat the World’s Worst Loser (his mother-in-law) in cribbage. He also enjoyed playing cards with their Crazy 8 Card Club friends. He loved all sports, but particularly loved watching volleyball, football, and softball. Tim is also fondly remembered as a man who cherished those around him with unconditional love, tenderness, and generosity. Tim was quick to laugh and build up those around him. He was known for sending notes and well-timed messages to those he loved, and his thoughtfulness will be especially missed.

Tim had a sincere and faithful love of the Lord, trusting Him even through his many recent health battles.  His family takes great comfort knowing he is now embraced in a glorious reunion in heaven. Our lives will forever be marked by the loss of Tim on this earth, but to our beloved friend, we know the Lord is saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

A memorial fund will be established to support the causes closest to Tim’s heart.
