On November 14, 2020 Tiewan Le’Vert Benston gained his heavenly wings. He was born to Diane B. Gibbs and Norman L. Moore on September 24, 1979 in Washington, NC. Tiewan was one of the most well-mannered, respectful, and kindhearted people you would ever meet. He had an infectious smile that would light up any room and a heart that would make any stranger feel loved. “Tie” as most of his family and friends called him, was an avid fisherman, video game player, enjoyed working on computers, and always had the latest and greatest electronics. There was nothing that Tie could not figure out how to do and do it with excellence.

Tiewan was a 1998 graduate of Washington High School in Washington, NC. He attended College of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, NC and then went on to ITT Tech formerly in Norfolk, VA. While in Elizabeth City, Tie made lots of friends while working at Albemarle Lanes. He never met a stranger and his personality quickly turned people from friends to family. After moving his family to Charlottesville, Tie started working at the University of Virginia. While there he graduated from the UVA Apprenticeship program on May 5, 2009 as a Licensed Plumber. Tiewan was a proud member of Jefferson Lodge #20 of the most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Virginia F&A Masons Inc.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Mature and Pearl Benston Sr; his paternal grandparents Rev. Charlie and Shirley Moore Sr; a brother Kevin Moore; uncles Mature Benston Jr, Roland Downing, Rayvonne Dixon, Emanuel Benston, James Shephard, and Kevin Moore; aunts Olar B. Purvis and Ruby Benston; cousins Jacqueline Benston Murphy and Shakira Moore.

Left here to cherish his memories are his sons Xavier T. Benston and Jayden Benston; his mother Diane B. Gibbs (Pal); father Norman Moore (Maxine); brother Kolron M. Moore; sister Taneesia Moore; nieces KaMoni and Kaliyah Moore; nephew Jaxon Hale; uncles Joseph Dixon, Frederick Benston, Terry Benston (Alice), Wayne Benston (Fran) all of Washington, NC; Arthur Benston (Betty), Minster Linwood Benston (Verna) of Chocowinity, NC; Mark Benston (Angie) of Jacksonville, FL, Charlie Moore (Juanita) of Elizabeth City, NC and Cedric Moore (Cassandra) of Hampton, VA. Aunts Delores Benston of Raleigh, NC, Lucy Benston of Washington, NC, Shirley Johnson of Elizabeth City, NC, Sheila Whitfield (Nathan) of Wakefield, VA, and Karen Moore of Charlotte, NC. His special friends/honorary brothers, Willie Boyd IV, James “Bubba” Brock, and David Londree; Honorary sister, Denise Midgette Farmer and best friend Teneeka White; Special friend Tammy Carter, several godchildren, cousins, and friends.  There were many people who were incredibly special to Tiewan and we can’t begin to list them all, just know, he showed his love while he was here on earth.
