September 13, 1920 – December 8, 2014

Thurma Fleet Burton Pedersen, beloved by all who knew her, slipped peacefullyaway from us on December 8, 2014. She was born in Douglas, Arizona onSeptember 13, 1920, to Dr. Thurman and Delia Fleet. Thurma enjoyed a life thatmost of us only dream of; and when asked how she managed to be so happy all ofthe time, her answer was, “Every morning when I wake, I look for my joy andcarry it with me all day.” And she never hesitated to share her joy with everyonewith whom she came in contact. Thurma was a wife and a mother and spent much of her life raising her threechildren, the loves of her life. When her children were older, Thurma returned towork in the health agency field. She became Texas State Executive Director for The United Cerebral Palsy Association. Due to her efforts on behalf of special needs children, she brought special education classes to small towns all over the State of Texas, acting as intermediary between these schools and representatives at the Capital in Austin in the effort to gain necessary funding. After she retired from United Cerebral Palsy Association, Thurma moved to SanAntonio and became Director of the media department for the Concept TherapyInstitute founded by her father in 1939. It was here she met and married her second husband Robert “Bob” Pedersen, and together their loving energies attracted people to them like a magnet! Bob preceded her in death in 1997. Since that time, Thurma has continued to bethe sunshine, the light, and the laughter for all who knew and loved her. Sheleaves behind her three children, Kit Burton, Charles W. Burton, III, and Scott G.Burton; 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; her brother George T. Fleet,Jr.; her six step-children, Nancy Hren, Peter Pedersen, Robert Pedersen, Jr., Candy Reed, CindySchreiner and Paul Pedersen, many nieces, nephews and life-long friends. We will all miss her, her joy, and her wise council. On The Wings of Angels, Mother.
