Thomas W. Evarts, a long time resident of Fairfield, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014 after a ten year battle with prostate cancer. Thomas was born on November 28, 1943, and was the son of the late Vincent J. and the late Lorena Blyth Evarts. Thomas is survived by his high school sweetheart, Claudette, whom he married in 1962, and they have been and will be “best friends forever.” He was also predeceased by his brother Daniel. Besides Claudette, survivors include his beloved children, his son David and his girlfriend Kim, his daughter Mary Moquin and her husband Bruce, along with his treasured grandchildren: Emily, Andrew, Luke and great grandson Liam. Tom’s sister Eileen and her husband George McMahon reside in Fairfield. Several cousins, two nephews and two Godchildren remain in the area. Tom was a graduate of Notre Dame HS in Fairfield and held three degrees from Fairfield University. He taught in the Norwalk Public Schools and Norwalk Community College. He held administrative posts in both the Norwalk and Danbury School systems before retiring after 37 years in education. After retirement he worked part-time at the University of Bridgeport as a supervisor of student teachers. Tom was always there in the time of sickness and crisis for his family and friends.
