On September 25, 2020, Thomas (“Tom”) Harry Berman passed away peacefully at Palm Bay Community Hospital in Palm Bay, Florida from natural causes.  He was happy and surrounded by many who loved and cared for him. Tom was born to Seymour and Betty Jean Berman on February 22, 1956 in Sacramento, California, where his father was stationed at Mather Air Force Base.

Tom passed without spouse nor had children. He was very sweet and kind natured.  Everyone who met him cared deeply for him and will miss him.  He always tried to do whatever anyone asked him to do. Tom’s siblings include: Patricia Jo Berman Ligon, living in North Carolina; Michael Jay Berman and Daniel James Berman, living in Guam.

Tom moved to Cocoa Beach in 1966 when he was 10 years old.  He attended Freedom Seven Elementary School, Roosevelt Jr. High School and Cocoa Beach High School where he was the captain of the varsity Baseball team and the starting point guard on his Basketball team.  Tom participated on youth baseball teams in Cocoa Beach from Little League through Babe Ruth, playing shortstop and second baseman. Tom had many friends while growing up in Cocoa Beach, many of whom played organized sports with him.

Tom’s work ethic was evident in his academic and athletic accomplishments. In addition to his hard work on his paper route throughout high school, Tom was a National Merit Scholar semi-finalist.  After high school graduation, Tom received a Presidential Appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, served in the U.S. Army, and also attended Florida State University in Tallahassee for a short time.

Tom lived in assisted living facilities for most of his life, under the care of the Brevard Florida Assertive Community Treatment team and volunteered his time on local projects.  He enjoyed chocolate, Coke, pizza, seafood, steak and potato chips.  During his lifetime, he embraced Cocoa Beach and Brevard County as his only home.  He will be missed.
