Upland: Thomas Tom George Beers, 84, went home to be with his Lord, with family by his side. He was born in Jamestown, New York, to Greek immigrants the late George and Dina (Loomis) Beers. He graduated from Jamestown High School and North Park College before finishing a BS in History from Taylor University.

He would later complete a Masters in Higher Education from American University in Washington, DC. He played football at North Park and was in the Mens Choir at both North Park and Taylor. Tom married the love of his life, Helen (Carlson) Beers on July 9, 1955. She preceded him in death on October 28th, 2013. Mr. Beers rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel in the US Marine Corps, during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, Tom served Taylor University in various roles including Assistant to the President, Dean of Students and Associate VP of Development over a span of 20+ years.

In 1987 he received the Taylor University Alumnus of the year award. Tom attended Upland Community Church. He served in various community leadership roles including leadership in the United Way of Grant County, corporate officer and office manager of the Upland Tire and Service Center, Inc. and as a fundraiser for Project Mercy in Fort Wayne, IN.

Survivors include a sister Mary Beers of Jamestown, New York; children, Julie (Carey) Cole, Fortville, Laurie (Dane) Davenport, Upland, Stephen (Jane) Beers, Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Susan (Thomas) Harrison, Atlanta, Georgia, Catherine (Patrick) Dickey, Greeneville, Tennessee, and James (Michelle) Beers, Lexington, Kentucky, 14 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Beers and sister-in-law, Betty Beers.
