Thomas E.

Tom was born in Binghamton, New York, on December 6, 1944 and grew up in the small town of Clifford, Pennsylvania.

Tom served in budget and finance fields in the Air Force.  He was so successful that he ultimately rose to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, the top enlisted rank that only one percent of all airmen attain.  During his career, he had assignments across the globe but his most important was in Ohio where he met the love of his life, Carol.  They were married on June 12th, 1964 and spent 53 years together as soulmates, parents and grandparents.

Tom was a man of many interests.  He loved hunting and fishing with friends and was very accomplished at both.  He spent lots of time camping, both “roughing it” and in much more comfortable RVs.  He also had a passion for racing and classic cars.  He worked on a race crew for local races and also enjoyed rebuilding cars with friends.  He had a particular love for Corvettes and seemed to always have one in the garage in different stages of rebuild.  Tom also loved horses and was both distinguished and honored to be invited to ride with the Pikes Peak Range Riders on several occasions.  He also sometimes went horseback on hunting trips deep into the wilderness.  He was definitely a man of adventure and fellowship.

Chief Tell retired from the Air Force after 23 years and embarked on his next career as a Department of the Air Force Civilian and led budget offices for 20 years.  Ultimately, this assignment led him back to Colorado Springs; he had previously served at the Air Force Academy and Peterson Air Force Base.  He settled in the Springs and planned to spend the rest of his life here with family and friends.

Thomas E. Tell was surrounded by family when he departed peacefully on December 21st, 2017, after a rich life of 73 years.  He is survived by his loving wife, Carol and their three children and their families:  Dianna and Reed Nelson; Kenny Tell and Patty Menzel-Tell; Sharon and Eric Buller.  Tom and Carol also have five grandchildren – Alexandra, Morgan, Kenton, Justus and Jessica.
