Thomas I. Smith, passed away, March 4, 2016, after a battle with lung cancer. He was born June 1, 1945, to Louis R. & Elizabeth M. (Bassette) Smith. Tom graduated from Onsted High School in 1963. He enlisted in the Naval Reserves during his junior year and following graduation he served two more years on active duty in the U.S. Navy. Tom graduated Michigan State University with a degree in Agriculture Tech. He enjoyed farming and worked at Ford Motor Co. for 36 years, retiring in 2005. After retiring, Tom drove truck for Wilbur-Ellis and Forche Farms. Tom was very active in Masonic Lodge and a Past Master of the Manchester Lodge No. 148 F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner, Valley of Detroit. Tom was a member of the Bits & Pieces R/C Club. He enjoyed building and flying model planes, riding his Harley Davidson and cruising the lakes with his 1957 Chris Craft. Tom is survived by his wife, Julie Smith, his sister, Joanne E. Kozarek, his daughter, Angela (Tom) Johnson, his son, Michael J. Smith, stepson, Todd Holbrook and stepdaughter, Jennifer Knight. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy.
