Willard passed away when Tom was 6 weeks old.
Chloris married Winfred Cackler when Tom was 5 years old.
Tom attended country school and graduated from Chariton High School in 1964.
Tom attended the University of Northern Iowa where he graduated as a teacher with a history major and a safety minor.
His first job was teaching in Creston where he taught for 14 years.
From this union two children were born:
Aaron Daniel and Amanda Ann.
They moved to Chariton in 1983 where Tom started working at the HyVee Warehouse until he retired on December 23, 2009.
Tom enjoyed playing golf was an avid reader and loved his coffee.
One of his favorite past-times was playing cards with Randy and Linda Hughes.
Tom and Baja enjoyed retirement with travel, including a trip to Ireland.
Tom was preceded in death by his fathers, Willard and Winfred, mother, Chloris, uncle Lorraine (“Nifty”) McNeer, and aunt Iola Schreiber and grandparents.
