Michalek, Thomas S.
Thomas S. Michalek, a resident of Brooklyn Park, MD, formerly of Glen Lyon, PA, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at Heritage Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parole, MD.
Born June 4, 1924, in Glen Lyon, PA, he was the son of the late Stephen J. Michalek and wife Agnes H., Thomas attended Newport TWP. High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and honorably discharged in 1946 as Private First Class Medical Detachment 94th Signal Battalion.
Thomas first worked at Baltimore-based Buffalo Tank, which Bethlehem Steel acquired in 1945, designs and manufactures large storage tanks, containers, bins and hoppers using welded steel plates. He then worked and retired from General Motors automobile assembly plant in Dundalk, MD, in 1985 after 36 years of service.
He was an avid sports team bird watcher, Orioles in the spring and summer; and Ravens in the fall. He loved reading, coin collecting, vegetable gardening, and wine making.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty J. Michalek; his sister Loretta Novak and husband Joseph; father and mother Stephen J. Michalek and Agnes H.
Surviving are his sons James S. Michalek and wife, Susan, of Denver, CO; Stephen J. Michalek, of Dundalk, MD; daughter Linda M. Amrein, Camden, NC; grandson Thomas J. Michalek and wife Ausha, of Aurora, CO; nephew Richard J. Novak and wife Christine, of Nanticoke, PA, and niece Diane Rybak and husband Kevin, of Nanticoke, PA.
