Thomas S. Clemons, 83, of Crest Hill, IL and formerly of Ashland and Springfield, IL died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Joliet Area Hospice in Joliet, IL.

He was born May 27, 1925 in Ashland; the son of Gilbert M. and Addie Smith Clemons. He married Kathleen Ann Sharp on July 9, 1946 in Salem, IL and she survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Debbie Cargerman (husband, Michael) of Plainfield; four grandchildren, Chris Clemons of Waterloo, Kevin Clemons of Springfield, and Jeffrey Cargerman and Joel Cargerman, both of Plainfield; two great grandchildren, Madison and Trent Clemons, both of Highland; a sister, Shirley McClure of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Terry A. Clemons (surviving wife, Linda of Riverton) and a brother, Lawrence Clemons (surviving wife, Jane of Kentucky).

Mr. Clemons served with the US Army during WW II. He was employed 32 years by the State of Illinois, retiring in 1984. He also sold advertising specialties in the Springfield area for over 40 years and gained a reputation for having never met a stranger. He was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church and Springfield VFW Post #755.
