Thomas R. Long, Jr., age 66, of Waterbury Center, VT, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018 in Central Vermont Medical Center, in Berlin, VT. Tom was born in Newport, VT. He was the son of Elaine Miles Long, and the late Thomas R. Long, Sr., residents of Westport, CT. Tom has been a Vermont resident for over 40 years. He graduated from Staples High School in Westport, CT in 1970. He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Vermont. He also earned an associate’s degree in electrical engineering from Vermont Technical College. Tom had a long career working for Digital Equipment Corporation, Nikon Precision, and Bio Tek Instruments in Vermont.

Tom loved music of all kinds and was a talented piano and guitar player. He loved to teach and share his knowledge with others. He enjoyed hosting friends in his home where they played and sang into the night. Any song he heard, he could play without the music before him.

Tom was a licensed Ham Radio operator (KB1NGQ) and was a member of Radio Amateur of Northern Vermont. For many years, he was a member of Central Vermont Amateur Radio Club, where he served as president. He volunteered at the Vermont City Marathon and served as communication coordinator for many fundraising events in the area.
