Thomas Brendan Quaid, 78, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2012 from complications related to pancreatic cancer. Tom was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois in 1933. In 1953 he married his high school sweetheart Nancy Jackson. They spent their first years of marriage in Trier, Germany where Tom served in the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force they moved to Champaign-Urbana and lived there for four years as Tom attended the University of Illinois. After graduating, the young family moved up to the greater Chicago area where Tom took a job with Motorola. In 1968 the Quaid family, now including children, Tom Jr., Teresa, Pete and Pat moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. Tom worked for Motorola for many years, retired, decided retirement wasn’t for him, went to work for Spectrum Astro and then retired for real this time. Nancy took ill with ALS in 2007. Tom made it his job to care for Nancy’s every need, and he was very good at his job. In 2009 the love of his life passed away. It has been said that greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. Tom truly showed his family and friends what love looked like as he laid down his life to care for his wife.
