Mr. Thomas P. Kirkwood, Jr. 85 of Burlington, former Probate Judge for the Town of Plainville, passed away Monday March 26, 2012 at Countryside Manor in Bristol. He was the husband of Marion C. (Carroll) Kirkwood.
Mr. Kirkwood was born September 25, 1926 in Bristol a son of the late Thomas P. and Ruth (Herold) Kirkwood, Sr. He was educated in Bristol schools and received his bachelor degree from Hillyer College in Hartford and his master’s degree in education from Central Connecticut State College. He was the Judge of Probate in the Town of Plainville for over 36 years and also taught business education at Terryville High School for 25 years. He was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII and was the past commander of the US Power Squadron in New Britain. He also taught boater safety classes at Tunxis Community College retiring two years ago. He enjoyed sailing, playing pool and vacationing in Las Vegas with his family. The family would like to thank the staff at Countryside Manor for their kindness and compassion during his brief illness.
Besides his wife of 59 years he leaves his sons, Thomas P. Kirkwood, III and his wife Rita of Winsted and Michael J. Kirkwood and his wife Jennifer of Plainville, his daughters, Carol Kirkwood of Plainville and Karen MacDonald and her husband John of Bristol, his grandchildren, Scott and Kelly MacDonald and Evan, Colby and Tommy Kirkwood and several nieces and nephews including Barbara Daigle and her husband Bruce of Avon.
