Thomas Nicholas Sportini, age 86, of Stratford, CT, beloved husband of the late Dorothy Back Sportini, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Bridgeport Hospital. Thomas was born in Bridgeport, CT to Thomas A. and Rose(Christino) Sportini on May 28, 1936, and grew up on Bridgeport’s Upper East Side. Tom attended Bridgeport schools and graduated from Bullard Havens Technical School in 1954. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the U. S. Army Reserves. Tom next enrolled in the IBEW Local #488 Electrical Apprenticeship Program and became a licensed electrician. He took great pride in his work and served the electrical union in numerous leadership capacities over the course of his 40+ year career. Tom was a gifted athlete and received many accolades over the years. He played both baseball and basketball for Bullard Havens, and enjoyed playing softball for Ideal Tire and IBEW Local #488. As the years passed, Tom transitioned into the role of “greatest fan” for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family is the most important aspect of Tom’s life, and he suffered a heartbreaking loss when his beloved wife, Dorothy, passed away in 1996. Tom is survived by two devoted sons, Thomas Sportini and wife, Karen of Stratford and Jay Sportini and wife, Kara of Milford, his treasured grandchildren, Thomas II and wife, Faye, Matthias and wife, Melissa, Aimee, Emily Dorothy, Sarah and Christopher Sportini, and the lights of his life, his great-grandchildren, Tommy III, Olivia and Nicholas Sportini. The family takes great comfort in knowing that Tom and Dorothy are reunited.
