Thomas (Tom) Michael Weiler (65) passed away on March 11, 2021, in Martinsville, Indiana.
Tom was born May 5, 1955, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.
Tom was the fourth of six children born to Edward C. and Mary (Arnold) Weiler of Vincennes. He grew up in Vincennes, attended St John’s Catholic Grade School and Central Catholic/Rivet High School, graduating in 1973.
After high school, he joined the Air Force. Before reporting for basic training, Tom bought an unlimited bus pass on Greyhound bus and spent 30 days just seeing America, by himself. Following basic training in Texas, he was stationed at Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Michigan, and Ramstein Air Force Base, West Germany. Following his active-duty service, he joined the Indiana Air National Guard in Terre Haute and returned to Vincennes to attend Vincennes University graduating with a degree in robotics.
Tom was always adventurous and loved the outdoors. He was always proud of his time in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed caving, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, and scuba diving. These are traits that he passed on to his two sons.
Tom traveled extensively throughout Europe while in the Air Force, including celebrating Octoberfest in Munich. He traveled to countries in Central America and South America, and the Caribbean islands to scuba dive and enjoy the countries. He was also an avid reader and loved discussing current events. Tom was always a big fan of Red Skelton.
Tom would have loved this and he would have been there in person. He worked at many jobs over his life, including Washington Avenue IGA and Harold’s, while going to school. Following graduation from VU, he moved to Palatine, Illinois where he worked for a variety of manufacturing companies, married, and raised his boys.
Tom worked for several companies including Tandy Corporation, and Motorola. After many years in Illinois, he returned to Indiana, making Martinsville his home. He enjoyed his time there. He spent his time doing the things he enjoyed the most. He touched the lives and of many people who love him and miss him dearly.
Tom is survived by his two sons, Robert Weiler of Nashville Tennessee and Stephen Weiler of Palatine, Illinois, his former wife Danae Lum Weiler, and his siblings – Mary Jo (James) Margner of Elmhurst Illinois, Bill Weiler (Kellie McCoy) of Morganton North Carolina, Larry (Cindy) Weiler of Indianapolis, Debbie (David) McCurdy of Centerville Ohio, and David (Sue) Weiler of Robins Iowa; plus eight nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Weiler, nephew Travis Weiler, and niece Katherine Mary Weiler.
