Thomas M. Burns, age 81, of DeMotte, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Southlake Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, Indiana.
Thomas was born June 27, 1935 in Hammond, Indiana. He was the son of Thomas Loren and Marie Rose (Schumaker) Burns. He graduated from Hebron High School, Class of 1953. Thomas married Marlene J. Luther in Calumet City, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 1997. Thomas was employed as a Heavy Equipment and Crane Operator with Local #150 for 50 years and from which he retired. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army from which he proudly served. Thomas was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons and a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite Cathedral in South Bend. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching & feeding wildlife. He was an avid fisherman & trap shooting enthusiast.
Thomas is survived by his children: Jeffrey (Lynn) Burns of Valparaiso, IN; Alan Burns of Wheatfield, IN; Thomas (Rebecca) Burns of Valparaiso, Michelle (Tony) Travers of DeMotte, IN; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; sister: Sylvia Zylstra of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter: Debra, and 1 brother.
