Thomas Jackson Jack Wilkerson Sr. passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family January 16 in Roswell. Jack was born in Carlsbad NM on October 12, 1923 to Martha Jane Elkins Wilkerson and Harvey Earnest Wilkerson, both of whom preceded him in death. Jack was the middle of 10 children, but is survived only by his brother Robert Wilkerson of Honduras. He joined the Army the day after Pearl Harbor and proudly served in Italy and North Africa, where he was a dispatch rider, riding motorcycles delivering messages between headquarters and troops.
Jack grew up on Third Street here in Roswell where he met his next door neighbor and future bride Clara E. Guffey Sioux Wilkerson. They eloped in Alamogordo, NM in June 6, 1946. The Wilkersons were blessed with five children, Teresa Land of Roswell, Patricia Bell of Roswell, Eva Brown of Houston, TX, Mary Patrick of San Antonio, TX and Thomas Jackson Wilkerson Jr. and his wife Vikki of Hobbs NM. The family was very active in the Church of Christ and Jack and his family spent many a Sunday loading up the children in the pickup truck and preaching in Tinnie, NM. He drove a truck for over 60 years hauling hay, to gasoline before retiring. Jack is survived by 1 brother, 5 children, one daughter in law, 18 grandchildren, 36 great grand children, and 9 greatgreat grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death, by his bride Sioux, three sons in laws, two grandsons, and one greatgrandson.
