Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Wilvin Avery and Alice L. (Roberts) Humes; his brother, Timothy; and brothers-in-law, Don Anderson, Boyd Ladd, and Carroll Peery.
Tom graduated from Newton High School in 1959. He was married to Judith A. Noel on June 26, 1959 in Newton.
Tom had worked in the grocery business, and had owned and managed grocery stores.
