Thomas “Tom” Hardwick, 92, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Jacksonville, the son of George W. and Elizabeth Wood Hardwick. He first married Betty Lou Thorn Thompson. He then married Velma Marie Horn on July 2, 1955, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 2005.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Speers of Bloomington and Mary Thompson of Spanish Fort, AL; two granddaughters, Susan (John) Cardamone and Julie (Rick) Thomas; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ellen Jameson.
Mr. Hardwick was a 1935 graduate of Winchester High School. He was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He farmed for most of his working life, and had been very involved with soil and conservation projects. He had also been involved with real estate development.
