Thomas H. Mansel, 87, of 1300 Fox Hollow Road, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Tom was Vice-President and General Manager of the former L.L. Stearns and Sons Department Store for 31 years.
Tom graduated from Haverford School and attended Washington and Lee University until enlisting in the Army Air Corp during WW II. He was one of the last surviving P47 fighter pilots.
Tom was a very active contributing member of Christ Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir for over 75 years. He was a 50 years member of the Dietrick Lamade Lodge #755 Free & Accepted Masons, a member of Dunwoody-Big Bear Fish and Game Club, was a board member of the former Blind Association, an avid outdoorsman and true gentleman.
Born March 17, 1923 in Waycross, GA, he was the son of Henry Southard and E. Elizabeth (Mallinson) Mansel.
Surviving are a son, James M.; a daughter, Eleanor M. “Lyn” (H. William) Alsted, both of Williamsport; a grandson, Thomas H. (Denise) Alsted of Harrisburg; great grandchildren, Abigail Lynn and Ethan Thomas Alsted and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom was predeceased by his wife, the former Ann Stearns.
