Thomas Gilmer Langford, 83
Accounting Supervisor
Huntsville – Thomas Gilmer Langford, 83, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, as a result of complications from pneumonia.
Mr. Langford was born April 22, 1930 in Mecklenburg County, NC. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army where he served in Berlin after WWII. While serving in Germany, he met and married Ursula Ruth Nickel. They moved back to the United States in 1951.
Upon his return to civilian life, Mr. Langford went to work in the trucking industry. He began his career as a terminal manager for Navajo Freight Lines. Over the course of his career, he held several positions in Cleveland, OH, Durham, NC and Charlotte, NC. While in Charlotte, Mr. Langford served as the head of the accounting department for Central Motor Lines. He also worked toward his degree in history at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and lectured frequently at North Carolina State on accounting practices in the transportation industry.
He and his family moved to Lakeland, FL in 1974. He went to work as the supervisor of accounts payable/receivable at Watkins Motor Lines where he remained until his retirement in 1992. He moved to Huntsville, AL in 2011 to be closer to his son, Gary.
Mr. Langford was an animal lover. He loved golf, shooting pool and photography.
Mr. Langford is survived by sons, Wayne Leslie Langford and his wife, Kathy; and Gerald “Gary” Keith Langford and his wife, Juli; daughter, Pamela Elisabeth Ellingsworth; and grandsons, Jason and Kevin Ellingsworth and Leif Langford.
