Thomas A. Fischetti, 81 of Berkeley Township, formerly of Staten Island and Brooklyn, passed from this life Wednesday, December 18, 2019. Thomas was born on April 23, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Frank and Roxie Fischetti. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

He will be missed by all who knew him. Thomas is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen Fischetti of Berkeley; son, Mark Richard Fischetti and his wife Jessica of Bedminster; brother, Vincent Fischetti of North Carolina; sisters, Maryanne Scallo of Old Bridge; Rosie DeLemma of Tamarac, Florida; grandchildren, Matthew Fischetti and Caroline Fischetti. Some fifty odd years ago, Thomas Fischetti walked into a bar and saw a young blonde woman working behind the bar. He turned to his friend and declared “I’m going to marry that girl.” Kathy Fischetti, who by luck was covering a shift for a friend despite never working as a barmaid before, couldn’t find a baby sitter for their first date so Thomas said to bring her son.

He later puked all over the backseat of Tommy’s Cadillac from eating too much and he and Kathleen were married within the year. By all accounts he was a simple man: he loved to cook salami and eggs for his family, watch marathons of the History Channel, play a mean belly drum, and go target shooting.

He often said that he never went hunting because “there are a lot more people I would shoot before an innocent animal.” He treasured time with his family above all else. Three years ago, Tommy Fischetti was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and after a lengthy battle, he passed away peacefully in his sleep. He lived a life full of love. His memory will be treasured by his family and all those who are the better for having met him.
