Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother is now at peace. Tom passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at home with family around him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00am until the service, and also at Nelson-House Funeral Homes Martin Chapel on Friday, September 8 from 1:00 to 8:00pm with a Prayer service held at 7:00pm and a Knights of Columbus Rosary prayed at 8:00pm.Thomas was born on January 31, 1934 to Edward R. and Elizabeth (Kothe) Mahoney in St. Charles Township. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. Thomas married Julia M. Lorencz on May 11, 1957 at St. Michael’s of Maple Grove. He worked as a metallurgist for GM at Saginaw Foundry for 34 years, suffering an injury on the job and retiring on disability.During his life, Thomas was very active in his community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he held many different offices, including past Grand Knight. He was responsible for supplying Amigo mobile scooters to disabled veterans at the Saginaw VA. He was a member of the Chesaning Lions Club, he was on the Boat Crew for the Showboat and was Chairman of car parking, and he volunteered for the Chesaning Fire Department for 20 years. Tom and his wife were past Grand Marshalls of the Showboat parade. Thomas was also a master craftsman and talented woodworker and clockmaker. He was a survivor of male breast cancer. Tom faced all his life with joy; he never let his health or challenges get him down. Thomas is survived by his wife of 60 years, Julia Mahoney; his daughters, Julie (Alan) Thiel and Jeanette Somers (Michael Keerl); his grandchildren, Melanie Thiel, Rebecca Hanley, Brandon Thiel, Steve Somers (Misty Grumbly), and Brooke Somers; and his 6 great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Nicole, Claudia, Paige, and Chloe, who were the joys of his later life; his brothers, Raymond (Judy) Mahoney, and Ron (Bonnie) Mahoney.He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Elizabeth, and 4 brothers and 3 sisters.Memorial contributions are suggested to the family.
