Thomas Edward Bell, Sr. left us peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Bradford Oaks Physical Rehabilitation Facility. He was born on July 3, 1936 to Ruth N. Owens in High Point, NC. Thomas attended and graduated from William Penn High School in High Point NC. After which he joined, and served honorably in the US Army.
Thomas continued his education at Johnson C. Smith University where he received his B. A. in journalism. He also met love of his life, Delcenia “Del” Davison. He went on to earn his master’s degree at the University of Michigan also in journalism. After school, Thomas served as a Social Science Program Manager OJJDP in the U.S. Department of Justice. He worked for the Federal Government for over 33 years before his retirement in 2000.
He was a lifetime member of the Prince Hall Masons, ultimately achieving Shriner. He was also an active life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Thomas was a deacon and served on the advisory council at New Hope Baptist Church of Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Thomas and Del were together for over 45 years, and were married for 41 years prior to her passing in 2003. Thomas’ life’s passions were to love and to provide for his wife, son and twin daughters.
Thomas is survived by his son, Thomas “Eddie” Bell, Jr.; daughter, Tania Yvonne Bell (Jacquelyn); brother, Daniel Clarence Bell, Jr. (Nellie) of Jamestown, NC; granddaughter, Taylor Yvonne DiNovo-Bell (Vostina DiNovo, mother); sisters-in-law, Della Sullins of Tuskegee of AL and Dorothy Johnson of Auburn, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends.
Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Delcenia; daughter, Sania Bell-Childress; and sister, Beverly Boyd.
