Thomas Edward Wingert, 83, of Freeport, went to heaven to be reunited with the love of his life, his wife Jane, on March 21, 2012. Born on the farm located in Kent on May 10, 1928 he was the son of Burrell Jay and Kathryn Marie (Gates) Wingert. He attended the one room school, during the early grades, known as Upper Kent.

High school was spent between Whittier High, Whittier California and Stockton High School where he graduated in 1946. He began the next phase of formal education at Alexian Brothers Hospital school of Nursing in Chicago and De Paul, Illinois, graduating in 1950. Following the required boards, he was granted the R.N. degree for practice. Prior to military service in the Army’s medical corps, he practiced at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Downey, Illinois.

The Korean Conflict assigned him to the 101st Airborne Division, stationed in the Ameds, 5th General Hospital Division, located in Stuttgart, Germany. Following military service he entered St. Francis Hospital, School of Anesthesia, in Peoria, Illinois becoming board certified as a CRNA, practicing for nearly 40 years spending 11 years in Freeport at the St. Francis Hospital and the Freeport Memorial Hospital. He moved to St. Clair Hospital in Monroe, Wisconsin for 25 years; retired from Davis-Duehr Ambulatory Surgery in 1993.

He married Jane A. Endress on February 23, 1958. She preceded him in death.He held membership in the American Association of nurse Anesthetists for 40 years, Korean Veterans, Masonic Lodge 823-Pearl City, Freeport Consistory, Valley of Freeport, and member of Bethany United Church of Christ.

Surviving are his daughters, Michelle D. Wingert of Pueblo, Colorado and Julia Kaye Schmelzle of Freeport; grandchildren, Todd and Tonya Barker, Christopher, Miranda and Savannah Schmelzle; great grandchildren, Tomas and Arial Wear; 1 sister, Marie A. Riley (Richard) of Conway Arkansas; In-laws, Margaret Wingert of Freeport, Dennis and Carol Endress of Pearl City, Robert of Dakota; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; Brothers Dale and Ellwood; Brother-in-law, Charles; Sister-in-laws, Caroline and Lorraine.
