Anderson – Thomas E. ”Tom” Finney, 62, Anderson, died unexpectedly August 23, 2002 at his residence. He was born May 17, 1940 in Anderson, Indiana, and resided in Anderson.

He was a lifelong Anderson resident. He spent most of his life dealing in automobile repair, in between his 20 year employment at the Abex Corporation from which he retired in 1996.

He was a graduate of Anderson High School, a member of the Moose Lodge and of the NRA. From the early 1960’s through the 1980′ he raced at Anderson Speedway, specializing in the Figure 8 races. Tom enjoyed doing things he loved to do and spending time with his wife and family.

He was a big Nascar fan and you would never catch him driving a Ford truck. We’re gratefull to have known and been raised by such a wonderful father. A stern hand and gentle touch – all the things we’ll miss so much. A loving husband and forever friend – I’ll miss you Tom – until we meet again He is survived by his his loving wife of 37 years, Shirley Frances Carpenter Finney whom he married July 19, 1965; six heartbroken children, Mike & wife Debbie Finney, Steve & wife Angie Finney, Jodi & husband Rick Stuffel, Stachia & husband Todd Myers, Amber & husband Shea Smith and Tyne & husband Jason Horton all of Anderson; seventeen grandchildren, Holly, Christy, Hunter, Keily, Stephany, Casey, Michael, Shelby, Destiny, Hannah, Logan, Stormi, Jacob, Taylor, Tristen, Brittney and one on the way; a brother, Johnny & wife Becky Finney; three sisters, Lou Nutt, Norma Smith and WavaJean; his mother-in-law, Shirley Hamilton who loved him like a son; several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins; special buddies, Larry Fisher, Bill Green, John Purkey and Tim Stanley and many others too numerous to mention.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer & Evelyn Anthony Finney, a sister and Brother-in-law, Bert & Bill Haney and a brother-in-law Larry Nutt.
