Thomas “Doc” Frank RichmondThomas “Doc” Frank Richmond born July 4th 1930, passed away August 30, 2019. What an amazing life you have lived, Tom. Doc (as he was known to many) was a light in the world to those around him, whose adventurous spirit could not be contained in any simplistic way. Tom was born in Gladwin, MI to Lafeyette D. Richmond and Marie Richmond. He spent his summers as a child at his Grandparents farm in Stittsville, MI. He and his brothers acquiescently helped them with the daily chores that were expected for the farm, all the while sharing many heartfelt attended Ferris State University where he received his Pharmacy degree. After graduating from Ferris he enlisted in the Navy as an officer. He was on the USS Consolation hospital ship during the Korean War. Soon after the war, Tom went to gain his MD as a Family Practitioner at the University of Michigan (also home to his favorite football team). Tom was married to Margaret “Peggy” L. Lowther for fifty-seven captivating years. Their love was one of a kind, pure and radiant, even during the most challenging of times. Tom and Peggy resided in the beautiful town of Cadillac, Michigan, where they raised their three children Theresa, Michael, and Annette. There they had built their home on Lake Cadillac and Tom had been granted success with his medical practice. Not only was he the founder of Medical Arts but also the county Medical Examiner, Chief of Staff at Mercy Hospital, Cadillac High School Football Doctor, and served on the vast array of different boards and community organizations. He was also a member of St. Ann’s church for many years. His amiable and giving nature made way for his great achievements in the medical profession as well as in the people he met on his journey. He welcomed patients in his home and never turned down those in need. The 4th of July is a special day to the Richmond Family because of all their celebration for a true “Firecracker” – Tom Richmond with dynamic presence. Tom in his old fashion red, white, and blue one-piece swimming suit jumping off the dock provided more entertainment than imaginable. Sitting together watching the fireworks on his dock with a spectacular view of Cadillac was a highlight in his life. He would often joke that the fireworks were specifically to signify his birthday. With his outgoing and perseverance attitude, he owned and operated a tree farm in Boon, MI and a sportfishing charter boat business in Frankfort, MI. Over the years his family and friends were regularly invited to “ring the bell” when a salmon was reeled in on the Tannenbaum. On the tree farm Tom would often welcome those to come and cut down Christmas the outdoorsman and fellow nature lover, Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and long walks on the Boardwalk in Naples, FL. To get ready for his next big hunt he would begin running and even do the Labor Run in Cadillac. He would go for long bike rides every night and would occasionally have his grandchildren accompany him. His love for tennis flourished whenever he played with his buddies.
