Tom was born in New York City, and he went on to graduate from Loy Norrix High School (Class of 1974) after the family moved to Kalamazoo in the late 1950s. Tom was talented and resourceful, and he was well known in southwestern Michigan as a mobile marine mechanic, operating as Precision Marine Service.
Tom was passionate about many things, including his two children, Lydia Adams of Bloomington, IN and Maxwell Adams of Irons; MI; his life partner, Mary Anne Stevens of Tarpon Springs, FL; and the ocean and dunes of the Cape Cod National Seashore, where he spent summers all his life at the family’s rustic dune cottage. Tom was the son of Marcia Adams, who taught in the Parchment Public Schools and now lives at the Fountains at Bronson Place, and the late David Adams, a professor in the Education Department at Western Michigan University.
Tom was the brother of the late Kenneth Adams, of Sally Adams (Paul Pereira) of Milton, MA and of Jonathan Adams of Boise, ID. Tom’s sudden death on November 21 was a shock to his family and his wide circle of friends in the Kalamazoo area and in Tarpon Springs. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown, MA (donations may be made through their website coastalstudies.org). A reception will follow the memorial service.
