Thomas Dan Slane of Florence, CO passed away on June 29, 2022. He was born on January 18, 1949, in Monte Vista, CO to Roy and Anna (Roetker) Slane. Tom loved the Lord, his family, and his country.
Tom was raised in the San Luis Valley, graduating in 1967 from Sangre de Cristo High School in Mosca, CO. While in the valley he worked for the Great Sand Dunes National Monument, the San Luis Valley Irrigation district, and for numerous farmers and ranchers. In 1970 he moved to Victor, CO, and lived there for 50 years. At first, he worked for Lloyd Stoner at the sawmill in the Midland area and started raising cows as well as selling firewood, potatoes, and milk on the side. He then went to work for Teller County Road and Bridge. In 1973 he became a journeyman lineman for Southern Colorado Power Company, a job that he thoroughly enjoyed and was proud of, making many good friends. In 1983 he became an independent construction contractor and continued to raise cattle in the San Luis Valley and Victor. Tom was an all-around handyman in the district taking his skills in carpentry, plumbing, and electrician work to anyone in need. A common phrase people would say was, “Call Tom”.
Tom was a founder and member of Goldfield Roping Club, a former 4-H leader in the community, and was involved in Teller County Search and Rescue. He was an active member and PER of the Victor Elks Club No. 367, served on the board of the Gold Camp Fishing Club for several years, and he was Vice President /Trustee of the Rudy Balke Trust from 1999 to the present.
Tom had a big heart and was always willing to lend a hand to people. He was a person who could always tell a good story and loved hunting, creek fishing, raising cattle, and sharing his passions with his family. He will be greatly missed by his wife and family.
He leaves his wife of 36 years, Cynthia Slane; 4 children, Loretta (Steve) Brown, Joe (Sherry) Slane, Danae Beiriger, and Carri (Kevin) Boswell; 8 grandchildren, Ryan, Brooke, Jessica, Jake, Kyle, Amethyst, Tyler, and Brittany; 3 great-granddaughters, Hailee, Hannah, and Leona; brother, John (Tina) Slane; niece and nephew, Tuck and Alisha; brother-in-law, Ken Powell; sister-in-law, Peggy Kelley Slane; nephews, Steve and Bobby; and niece, Tandy.
Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Cleo Powell; nephew, Donnie Powell; and brothers, Jimmy Slane and Billy Slane.
