Thomas C. Shupert October 23, 1935 – July 9, 2015
Thomas C. Shupert, of Sierra Vista, AZ passed away on Thursday July 9, 2015 at his home. He and his wife have been residents of Sierra Vista for 12 years. Tom was born October 23, 1935 in Chicago, IL, to Perry L. and Florence (Daly) Shupert.
Tom attended Colorado State University where he met his best friend in life, Marjory. They both graduated from Colorado State University in 1957. He joined Glen L. Martin in 1957 and spent over 40 years with Martin working on both the Atlas and Titan missile programs. During his career he assisted with 343 Titan Heritage and 25 Atlas launches. After retirement, Tom and Marjory moved to Sierra Vista.
Tom served as president of the Sierra Vista Historical Society. He completed many research projects and did over 150 oral histories documenting life in Cochise County. Tom was the founder of the Sierra Vista Historical Society’s Historic Site Plaque Program.
Recently, he completed an oral history project with local veterans. Photos and stories from this project are permanently displayed at the Serria Vista Regional Medical Center. Tom also served on the Parks and Recreation Board for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Marjory of Sierra Vista, AZ, three children, Cynthia (R. Keith) Newlon, of Sierra Vista, AZ, Linda (Joseph) Fox of Flagstaff, AZ, and Scott (Janice) Shupert of Littleton, CO; seven grandchildren, Lindsey (Zach) Leuder, Cara Newlon, Tyler (Amy) Newlon, Whitney Fox, Jamie and Alex Wahl, and Ryan Shupert; and great-granddaughter Hazel Irene Newlon.
