Thomas C. Shevlin, 83, of Peru, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Shevlin was born on May 11, 1933 in Peru to Edward and Barbara (Schneider) Shevlin. He married his beloved, Donna C. Greiner on September 21, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Church in Ogden, Utah.
He earned his associates degree from Illinois Valley Community College. Tom served 22 years, including three tours in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked at Sundstrand in LaSalle for many years and later retired from IDES as the veteran representative. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Peru and the Oglesby Elks Club. Tom was a long time University of Illinois football season ticket holder, an avid golfer, Cubs fan and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his two sons, Joseph E. (Mary) Shevlin of Triumph and Gary J. (Lela) Shevlin of Arcadia, FL; two daughters, Barbara (Scott) Bennett of Seattle, WA and Mary L. (Albert) Susnis of Lake in the Hills; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Jackie) Shevlin of Peru and one sister, Margaret Fitzgerald of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna Shevlin on January 6, 2014; two grandchildren, Alex Pinter and Margaret Shevlin; one brother, Edward Shevlin and four sisters, Mary “Sis” Newton, Jean Pattenburg, Bernice Vecchi and Ruth Ann “Foof” Shevlin.Pallbearers will be Kyle Shevlin, Ray Shevlin, Jacob Dahnke, Philip Thomas, Teri Williams and Savannah Thomas.
