Thomas R. “Tom” Black, 71 passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the IU Health Hospice House following a short illness. The son of Roger and Marjory (Ohming) Black he was born in Bloomington, IN. He attended University High School, graduating in 1959. He graduated from Indiana University in 1963.

He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. In 1963 he joined Black Lumber Company, retiring as CEO and President. He was a charter member of the Young Lumbermen’s Club and served on the board. Tom was a loyal IU Alumnus. He was a life member of the IU Alumni Association, The Well House Society, The Varsity Club and the Hoosier Hundred.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Janet (Hays) Black, one daughter, Karin Black Reece, three grandchildren, Olivia, Lucas and Jacob Reece all of Bloomington. Survivors also include two sisters, Susan Black of Bloomington and Janet Shull (Jim) of Silver Lake, IN.
