Thomas Arthur Kane was born in Minneapolis, MN on August 11, 1932, the son of Edwin G. and Margaret (Johnson) Kane. He attended Virginia Military Institute and upon graduation as a civil engineer joined the U.S. Air Force. Tom was trained and flew the B-47 Stratojet Bomber. His first job was as a loads engineer with Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita, KS. Tom’s career included work for various aircraft companies and eventually he became a project manager at Raytheon Co. in MA and was responsible for missile configuration studies and aerodynamic analysis on Sparrow variants. He also worked for Textron Company as program manager of three technology development contracts with the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, Tom worked for GenCorp-AeroJet and Robert Bosch Corporation, transitioning from military defense to automobile air bag safety development. Tom’s interests were many, ranging from racing motorcycles and sports cars, to playing chess and golf in his retirement was married to Mercedes (Tilinski) Kane for nearly 62 years. He is survived by his widow and children and their partners: Tracy (Kane) and Arthur Cavallo; Sandra Kane and Mark Polin; Eric and Beth (Spina) Kane, Brian Kane and David Herod. He is also survived by his six grandchildren and their spouses; Natalie Cavallo, Alyssa Cavallo, Jake and Kathryn (Blevins) Tommy, U.S. Marine Lcpl. Samuel and Fuko (Kado) Tommy, Liliana (Kane) and John Staiger, and Josina Kane; brother, Robert Kane of Middletown PA; niece, Mary Kaylor of Camp Hill, PA; brother-in-law, Fred Tilinski and wife Rebecca of St. Peters, MO.
