Williamsport, MD- Thomas Allen Downs, Jr., 91, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, MD.
He was born on October 21, 1930 in Hagerstown, MD to the late Thomas Allen Sr., and Catherine Matilda (Taylor) Downs.
Thomas was a lifelong educator in the Washington County Public School System, retiring as the Deputy Superintendent of Schools in 1993.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.
He was a lifelong member of National Education Association; member and Past President of the Washington County Teacher’s Association; BPOE #778 Elks in Martinsburg, WV; Loyal Order of Moose #120 in Martinsburg, WV; Potomac Post #202 American Legion in Williamsport, MD; Medairy #140 AF&AM Lodge in Williamsport, MD; Ali Ghan Temple.
Thomas enjoyed golfing after his retirement.
He is survived by his son Thomas H. Downs and his wife Donna L. Lucia-Downs of Taneytown, MD; son Taylor B. Downs and his wife Missy of Fairmont, WV; sister Mary C. “Susie” Kunkle and her husband Noel of Williamsport, MD; grandchildren Thomas Frank Downs (Katherine), Rachel A. Jeanette (Frank), and Henry A. Downs; great grandchildren Boone and Catherine-Jane “CJ”.
He was preceded in death by his brothers James Downs and Frederick Downs.
