Thomas A. Stensberg, age 64, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Tom was born July 29, 1957 in Wisconsin Rapids to Russell and June (Webie) Stensberg. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1975. He married Dawn Hunter August 19, 1978 at the United Methodist Church in Wisconsin Rapids.

Tom worked at Preway Inc. for 11 years and was a dislocated worker liaison for the AFL-CIO until he began working at Consolidated Papers in 1989.

Tom served many roles in USW Union Local 94 including steward, recording secretary, and president for six years. Tom lobbied in Washington D.C. many times for family, fair trade, and union rights and was part of the Central Wisconsin Labor Council. He wrote regular editorials for the Daily Tribune regarding labor issues. He was also a dedicated member of the Central Wisconsin Beagle Club for 30 years. 

Tom was an outdoorsman and who enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, and four wheeling. He loved fishing for bluegills and was known for having the best fish fries. He loved camping with his family in Tomahawk and Sugar Camp, Wisconsin. One of his favorite pastimes was cruising the lake on his pontoon boat.

He is survived by his wife Dawn, children: Casey (Greg) Wojack, Russ Stensberg, Angela (Evan) O’Day; grandchildren: Alyssa Stensberg, Hunter Stensberg, Miles O’Day and Julian O’Day; siblings: Chris (Cheryl) Stensberg, Dennis (Debb) Stensberg, Gary (Judy) Stensberg, Randy (Wendy) Stensberg; sisters-in-law: Gloria (Joey Romano) Hunter, brother-in-law Jim (Travis Wells) Hunter, and mother-in-law Mary Ann Hunter. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other family including the family dog Pearl.

The family would like to thank the staff at Aspirus Riverview Hospital ICU, outpatient surgery, and other hospital staff for the exceptional care given to Tom and his family.
