Thomas A. Miles, age 73, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 in Plainwell, MI. He was born on October 6, 1942 in Battle Creek, MI the son of Clyde and Anna (Nelson) Miles. Thomas enlisted in the US Army on July 13, 1960 and was honorably discharge on July 12, 1963. Thomas returned home and started a career of 41 years as a police officer. He served on the Kalamazoo City Police Department from September of 1964 to October of 1979.
From September of 1981 to June of 2007 he served on the Kalamazoo Township Police Department. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed tinkering in the garage, riding his motorcycle, planning his next joke and getting others to laugh and smile. He also enjoyed spending time visiting with his family and friends. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Edward Christian Lunsford; and a great-granddaughter, Khloe Miles.
He is survived by three children, Jim (Melanie) Miles of Kalamazoo, Kim (Roy) Penny of Galesburg and Lisa (Jim) Steck of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Jessica Miles, Joshua Miles, Logan (Leyanna) Miles, Holly Lunsford, Paige Steck and Devon Steck; a great-granddaughter, Penelope Miles; and a sister, JoAnn (Larry) Fiedler.
