Theresa McCarten, 85, of Lakeside, Michigan died Thursday evening, December 24, 2009, at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center, Michigan City, Indiana.Theresa was born March 3, 1924 in Leechburg, Pennsylvania to George and Theresa (Merk) Pink. She met Robert J. McCarten from Lakeside at a dance at the Grange in Pinola, Indiana. On May 29, 1954 they married in Wanatah, Indiana.

He preceded her in death on April 8, 1984. Robert was engaged in farming his entire life, and, as a farmer’s wife, Theresa also worked on the farm. They were members of the Grange in Harbert, Michigan. Theresa went door to door selling eggs; fresh chickens; and produce from her garden. She was employed in the office at Plastic Masters in New Buffalo, Michigan in the late 1950’s, but most people remember her from her 15 years as a waitress at the Sawyer Truck Stop. She enjoyed the antique engine shows with her son, John. Theresa was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Church, New Buffalo.

Survivors include her son, John McCarten of Lakeside; sisters, Mary (George) Szeman of Munster, Indiana and Elizabeth Yaczko of Munster, Indiana, her brother, George (Ceil) Pink of Glendora, California and sister-in-law, Arlene Pink of Terre Haute, Indiana. Her brother Joseph Pink preceded her in death.
