Theresa Flores passed away the morning of November 6, 2012 at Westwood Nursing Facility. She was born Theresa Gunreben in Brooklyn, NY on August 12, 1929 and married Vincent Flores December 28, 1948. She loved to say “Be Sweet” during discussions with her many friends, who affectionately called her Terri.

She is preceded in death by her parents; George and Barbara Gunreben and youngest son Richard Flores.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Vincent Flores; 3 sons, Vincent (Nina) Flores of Columbia, SC, Donald (Kathy) Flores of Austin, TX, George (Ginny) Flores of Ft. Walton Beach, and daughter Barbara (Miguel) Correa of Ft. Walton Beach; her sister Rose and nephew Eric (Helen) Harris both of Ft. Walton Beach; also 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was well known and respected for her various volunteer works. She appeared in her home-made bunny costume every year at Easter, from 1997-2004, in Liza Jackson Park. She played Mrs. Claus for many years. She was a certified clown and runner up in 1995 at the Ms. Okaloosa County Pageant. She also served in the VFW Ladies Axillary 7674 and was a member of the Gold Diggers.

In her early forties, Terri discovered Belly Dancing; it became a major part of her life. She founded the Kasba Dancers of Ft. Walton Beach, with the motto “We dance for all Happy Occasions”. Every dancer takes a name, and Terri became “Shalimar” evolving into “The Ancient One”. She began instructing students at the Fred Hendricks Recreation Center. She started annual Haflas, on her birthday for beginners to feel comfortable with the dance, with proceeds donated to charities such as:  Paws, American Cancer Society and various Hospices. The Kasba dancers performed at Community Festivals, nursing and retirement homes, parades, Cablethon’s, banquets, birthdays, and anniversaries.

Dance your way to Heaven’s gate, where shinning angels stand and wait. Glide and twirl on the golden floor and dance on clouds forever more, sweet Terri.
